When learning how to hit straight golf shots, establishing a sound foundation is essential.
The reason why a sound foundation is one of the most important keys to hitting straight golf shots is that it helps you from swaying off your ball during your golf swing. Very few golfers have the ability to return their club faces to the ball squarely at impact if they sway off their ball during their back swing.
A recent article speaks to the significance of setting up a sound foundation in order to hit a straight golf ball.
“A good stance is the foundation of every golf shot. Your stance is often what determines the distance of your shot. If you want the ball to travel a decent distance, you need to find the balance between bending over and standing up straight. Both slouching and standing too tall can negatively impact your ability to hit the ball.” Read more…http://perfectgolfswingv.com/improve-your-golf-game-with-these-tips/.
I believe a good foundation requires two things.
First, I think your stance needs to be approximately the width of your arm pits for shorter clubs and then progressively widened up to the width of your shoulders for your driver.
Second, I think the weight of your body should be distributed between the balls and heels of your feet.
I often hear instructors suggest that the weight of your body should be more on the balls of your feet than on the heels of your feet. They contend this is more of an athletic position.
They frequently attempt to illustrate it by showing how difficult it is to push a golfer off his or her stance from the front when more weight is distributed on the balls of the feet.
However, they fail to realize how easy it is to push a golfer off his or her stance when pushed from behind when there is more weight on the balls of the feet than on the heels of the feet.
The best golf method is to equally distribute the body weight between the two.
It you widen your stance appropriately for the specific club in play and distribute your weight equally between the balls and heels of your feet, you will have the proper foundation to hit straight golf shots.
